Easter Sunday
Join us on Easter Sunday for a joyous celebration of new life, renewal, and resurrection—God’s grace at work in our world and in us. The ancient call and response of the people bears witness to that grace: Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Together we celebrate our shared hope with glorious song, hopeful good news, and joyous life. Invite friends, strangers, neighbors, and families as we celebrate the powerful love of God in Christ! We’ll have opportunities for both in-person worship and online worship on this day.

Easter Offering
Our Easter Offering will benefit two organizations beginning right here in Denton and stretching to countries throughout the world. We are giving to Interfaith Ministries, which provides assistance to vulnerable neighbors in our Denton community helping with basic resources and access to affordable housing, and to Doctors Without Borders where our funds will help to provide immediate assistance to various humanitarian emergencies around the globe.
All money given on Easter Sunday will be directed to these two organizations unless noted otherwise. Thank you so much for your generosity! To give to the Easter offering at anytime online, visit the link at fumcdenton.com/give and select "Easter Offering" from the drop-down menu. Thank you for shining God’s love into every life!
Pub Theology
This is a casual, open-minded gathering for folks with big questions about God, faith, and life. We meet at a local bar for drinks, a mini presentation, and thoughtful conversation together. Each gathering explores a topic through history, the Bible, and the voices of theologians.
April’s topic: Eucontamination
Let’s talk about the concepts of Disgust Theology and Contamination-For-Good based on the book Eucontamination by Billie & Paul Hoard. Here’s a preview: “For too long, Christianity has been distorted by an overapplied purity-disgust metaphor: fueling exclusion, reinforcing fear, and enabling Christian Nationalism. Eucontamination challenges this toxic framework, arguing that Jesus did not retreat from impurity but transformed it.”
No church background required. No pressure to follow a specific religion or belief. All are welcome—bring your questions, your curiosity, and your whole self as we learn from each other.

A New Creation Worship Series Begins
Easter is about new life—but what does that actually look like?

A failure becomes a leader.
An enemy becomes an ally.
A businesswoman turns generosity into a movement.
These aren’t perfect people. They’re people who encountered love, grace, and hope—and were changed by it.
Maybe we can be, too.

Men’s Book Club
Join our next Men’s Book Club at Zera’s Coffee, 420 E. McKinney, Denton. The book chosen is: Built Upon the Rock: Letters of John Quincy Adams to His Son on the Bible and its Teaching by John Quincy Adams. Discussion will be encouraged and occasionally we may even talk about the book. Even if you don’t read, come and enjoy the fellowship. Please contact Bob Voss 972-965-9605 for more information.
Book Description: In 1809, President James Madison appointed John Quincy Adams as America’s first ambassador to Russia. Leaving his oldest son behind in America, Mr. Adams—sensible of his spiritual obligation to his son—began to write a series of letters to help provide basic guidance to his son concerning his son's spiritual disciplines, the importance of Bible study, and it basic teachings. Though written with their oldest son—George—in mind, Mr. Adams fully intended that these nine letters also be kept and collected for the benefit of "brothers and sisters." Originally published in 1850, the Letters of John Quincy Adams are now once again available in this special presentation edition.

Keeping Sunday Out Of School: Protecting Classrooms from Christian Nationalism
Why has public education come under attack? What changed? Does our First Amendment's establishment clause still provide protection for our public schools? Who’s driving the agenda to dismantle our public schools and what can we do to protect them?
Join Dr. Randall Balmer and Dr. Keri Ladner for an engaging evening as they unravel the history behind the push to weave Christian nationalist theology into public schools including posting the Ten Commandments in classrooms, mandatory school prayer, and weaving Bible stories into school curriculum. Today, Christian nationalists have unprecedented access to power... and we have a valuable window of opportunity to secure the future of our local public schools.
Dr. Balmer, a New York Times bestselling author and Episcopal priest, serves as the John Phillips Professor in Religion at Dartmouth College. He's published more than a dozen books including his most recent New York Times bestseller, America's Best Idea: The Separation of Church and State.
Dr. Keri Ladner is a member of FUMC Denton. An author and researcher known for her work on the theological roots of the Religious Right, Keri holds a PhD in Divinity from the University of Edinburgh. Her most recent book is American Dominion: The Rise and Radicalization of a New Christendom.

High School Mission Trip
High School Mission Trip | June 14–20, 2026
In early July 2025, San Angelo was devastated by catastrophic flash flooding—one of many communities struck by record rainfall that left over 1,000 homes with major damage and transformed familiar streets into impassable waterways. The road to recovery is long, and help is needed. This summer, high schoolers are invited to travel to San Angelo, Texas for a week of meaningful service and community impact partnering with Be the Neighbor.
Over the course of the week, your group will engage in hands-on disaster relief and recovery work. Students might help clear debris, assist with home repairs, distribute essential supplies, or support local shelters and disaster response organizations. Alongside the physical work, we'll hear directly from residents whose lives were upended by the flood and gain a deeper understanding of what long-term recovery truly looks like for a community.
Cost: $450 per person
This is more than a service trip—it's a chance for students to show up for neighbors in need, grow in their faith, and be the hands and feet of Christ in a place still finding its footing.
For more information, contact Jack.

Good Friday
Join us for a solemn Tenebrae Service of Good Friday. Tenebrae—meaning “darkness” or “shadows”—is a deeply reflective service that traces the events of Christ’s passion through scripture, prayer, and music. As the story unfolds, candles are gradually extinguished, symbolizing the growing shadows of betrayal, suffering, and death, and inviting us into quiet contemplation of Christ’s sacrifice.
As we remember the significance of Good Friday, this worship experience offers space for meditation, reverence, and prayer as we reflect on the meaning of the cross for our lives today. You can also join us on line on our church’s Youtube Channel. Childcare will be available for children birth-Kindergarten with RSVP to Pastor Sheryl.
Maundy Thursday
On Maundy Thursday, we step into the story of Jesus’ final night before his arrest—where love, service, and sacrifice take center stage. Led by our pastors and modern band, this service blends scripture, storytelling, and secular music to bring the journey of that night to life.
Experience the intimacy of the Last Supper through Holy Communion, the humility of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet through a hand-washing activity, and the weight of what was to come. Through music from our world today and over generations, we’ll discover how this ancient story still speaks to us, shaping our faith and calling.
You can also join us online for on YouTube. Come and remember what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do, as we find ourselves in the story once more.
Childcare for children birth-Kindergarten is available with RSVP to Pastor Sheryl.
This service is located in Flinn Hall on the Sycamore Street side of the church.

Harvest Class Guest Speaker: Deb Hughey, Church & Society
The Harvest Sunday School Class invites you to join us as we welcome Deb Hughey, a longtime healthcare leader, community advocate, and active voice for social justice.
A native Texan, Deb was born in Wichita Falls and raised in Lubbock. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's in Business Administration, After a-decades-long career in healthcare, she retired from the Baylor Scott & White Healthcare System in January 2020
When Deb was just ten years old, she watched the events of Bloody Sunday unfold on the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. Though she had little framework at the time to understand what she was seeing, the images planted a seed that would later grow into a lifelong commitment to justice.
After moving to Denton with her husband of 45 years, Deb joined First United Methodist Church of Denton, where she discovered a community of women deeply committed to social justice. Their encouragement led her to become involved with United Women in Faith and to attend the Texas Impact Legislative Event. Through these experiences, Deb found her calling in the Charter for Racial Justice and in John Wesley's teaching that social justice is a core expression of Christian faith.
Deb currently serves as Chair of the Church and Society Committee at FUMC Denton and is also a member of the HTC Church and Society Board of Directors.
She remains actively engaged in social justice efforts within her church community and across the state.
Join us on March 29 at 10am in Room 336 for an inspiring conversation about faith, justice, and the call to action in our communities.

Men’s Book Club
Join our next Men’s Book Club at Zera’s Coffee, 420 E. McKinney, Denton. The book chosen is: Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides. Discussion will be encouraged and occasionally we may even talk about the book. Even if you don’t read, come and enjoy the fellowship. Please contact Bob Voss 972-965-9605 for more information.
Book Description: In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, enroute to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.

Wonderfully Made Workshop for 6th-8th Graders
Raising a middle schooler comes with big questions—and big feelings. Wonderfully Made is a faith-based workshop for 6th–8th graders that helps students explore what it means to be created in God’s image during a season of growth and change.
Through honest, age-appropriate teaching and guided discussion, students will learn about their changing bodies, emotional health, relationships, boundaries, and God’s design for sexuality—all in a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment. This program emphasizes respect, faith, and informed decision-making as students grow into who God created them to be.
Wonderfully Made is intentionally welcoming and affirming of all students, including those who may be queer, questioning, or straight, and creates space for every participant to feel respected, seen, and valued.
This course is $40 per child and facilitated by Rev. Audrua Welch, Associate Pastor at Plymouth Park UMC.
Schedule:
Friday, February 27—6:30-8:30pm
Saturday, February 28—9am-3pm
(Parents are asked to join the students from 2-3pm on Saturday for the last part of the workshop.)
*The Wonderfully Made experience is paired with a parent seminar the Sunday prior (Teaching the Talk) on February 22 to help families continue these conversations at home with shared language and values. Together, we aim to support both students and parents as they navigate this important season of life with confidence, care, and faith.
