Men’s Book Club
Join our next Men’s Book Club at Zera’s Coffee, 420 E. McKinney, Denton. The book chosen is: Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides. Discussion will be encouraged and occasionally we may even talk about the book. Even if you don’t read, come and enjoy the fellowship. Please contact Bob Voss 972-965-9605 for more information.
Book Description: In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, enroute to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.

Maundy Thursday
On Maundy Thursday, we step into the story of Jesus’ final night before his arrest—where love, service, and sacrifice take center stage. Led by our pastors and modern band, this service blends scripture, storytelling, and secular music to bring the journey of that night to life.
Experience the intimacy of the Last Supper through Holy Communion, the humility of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet through a hand-washing activity, and the weight of what was to come. Through music from our world today and over generations, we’ll discover how this ancient story still speaks to us, shaping our faith and calling.
You can also join us online for on YouTube. Come and remember what Jesus has done, is doing, and will do, as we find ourselves in the story once more.
This service is located in Flinn Hall on the Sycamore Street side of the church.
Good Friday
Join us for a solemn Tenebrae Service of Good Friday. Tenebrae—meaning “darkness” or “shadows”—is a deeply reflective service that traces the events of Christ’s passion through scripture, prayer, and music. As the story unfolds, candles are gradually extinguished, symbolizing the growing shadows of betrayal, suffering, and death, and inviting us into quiet contemplation of Christ’s sacrifice.
As we remember the significance of Good Friday, this worship experience offers space for meditation, reverence, and prayer as we reflect on the meaning of the cross for our lives today. You can also join us on line on our church’s Youtube Channel.
Easter Sunday
Join us on Easter Sunday for a joyous celebration of new life, renewal, and resurrection—God’s grace at work in our world and in us. The ancient call and response of the people bears witness to that grace: Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Together we celebrate our shared hope with glorious song, hopeful good news, and joyous life. Invite friends, strangers, neighbors, and families as we celebrate the powerful love of God in Christ! We’ll have opportunities for both in-person worship and online worship on this day.
Easter Schedule:

April’s topic: Eucontamination
Let’s talk about the concepts of Disgust Theology and Contamination-For-Good based on the book Eucontamination by Billie & Paul Hoard. Here’s a preview: “For too long, Christianity has been distorted by an overapplied purity-disgust metaphor: fueling exclusion, reinforcing fear, and enabling Christian Nationalism. Eucontamination challenges this toxic framework, arguing that Jesus did not retreat from impurity but transformed it.”

High School Mission Trip
High School Mission Trip | June 14–20, 2026
In early July 2025, San Angelo was devastated by catastrophic flash flooding—one of many communities struck by record rainfall that left over 1,000 homes with major damage and transformed familiar streets into impassable waterways. The road to recovery is long, and help is needed. This summer, high schoolers are invited to travel to San Angelo, Texas for a week of meaningful service and community impact partnering with Be the Neighbor.
Over the course of the week, your group will engage in hands-on disaster relief and recovery work. Students might help clear debris, assist with home repairs, distribute essential supplies, or support local shelters and disaster response organizations. Alongside the physical work, we'll hear directly from residents whose lives were upended by the flood and gain a deeper understanding of what long-term recovery truly looks like for a community.
Cost: $450 per person
This is more than a service trip—it's a chance for students to show up for neighbors in need, grow in their faith, and be the hands and feet of Christ in a place still finding its footing.

Raising a middle schooler comes with big questions—and big feelings. Wonderfully Made is a faith-based workshop for 6th–8th graders that helps students explore what it means to be created in God’s image during a season of growth and change.
Through honest, age-appropriate teaching and guided discussion, students will learn about their changing bodies, emotional health, relationships, boundaries, and God’s design for sexuality—all in a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment. This program emphasizes respect, faith, and informed decision-making as students grow into who God created them to be.
Wonderfully Made is intentionally welcoming and affirming of all students, including those who may be queer, questioning, or straight, and creates space for every participant to feel respected, seen, and valued.
This course is $40 per child and facilitated by Rev. Audrua Welch, Associate Pastor at Plymouth Park UMC.
Schedule:
Friday, February 27—6:30-8:30pm
Saturday, February 28—9am-3pm

Sunday, February 22 | 5:30–7:30pm | Miller Center | Dinner Inlcuded
Talking with your child about human sexuality can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Teaching the Talk is a seminar designed to equip parents of all ages with tools, language, and confidence to have healthy, faithful, and age-appropriate conversations with their children.
During this session, we’ll explore the Six Principles of Sexual Health, the differences between abstinence-only and medically accurate, evidence-based sex education, and the United Methodist Church’s Social Principles related to human sexuality. Participants will be invited to reflect on and identify personal and family values, learn how to create safe environments for questions and mistakes, and practice real-life conversations through guided role-playing in small groups.
This seminar is especially encouraged for parents whose students will be participating in the Wonderfully Made Workshop the following weekend, but it is open and valuable for parents at any stage. Our goal is to empower you to continue these important conversations with clarity, compassion, and faith.

A Clearing Season: Lent Small Group Experience
Discover renewal and refreshment on an experiential journey through the Lent wilderness season. Grounded in Scripture, led by a life-giving text, and by certified spiritual director Kake Nations, we will explore new practices to help navigate any season accompanied by Jesus.
Clear, short readings with scripture, questions, simple assignments or exercises, sharing, and experiences of journey allow us to unburden ourselves, face "wild beasts" of anxiety or fear, to notice where new growth appears, and become grounded where God plants as we enter into new life.
Sign up now for Sundays, February 15—Easter, April 5, from 5:30-7pm, plus an optional "afterglow" gathering on April 12.
What you'll need: the book, your calendar, a way to take notes if you wish, and a seeking, adventurous spirit. A Clearing Season: Reflections for Lent by Sarah Parsons is the text, available new or pre-loved online.
Contact Kake with questions and/or to sign up early.

Caring Congregation Cohort
The Horizons Texas Conference has invited us to participate in a hybrid (in-person and online) cohort designed to help clergy and laity build, strengthen, and expand care and healing ministries that reach both within the church and into the wider community.
Through guided teaching, practical tools, and shared learning, participants will explore why systems of care matter, what effective day-to-day caring looks like, and how intentional care ministries help churches reach new people and deepen discipleship. This cohort will help churches evaluate their current ministry context, organize or expand a care team, and take concrete next steps toward launching or deepening a sustainable care ministry that reflects Christ’s healing presence.
The training combines in-person gatherings with live Zoom sessions and is designed for both new and existing care teams. Churches may participate individually or as a group, making this an ideal opportunity for pastors, staff, and lay leaders to learn and discern together.
Medium-Large Churches Option 2 Schedule:
In-Person Kickoff: Saturday, February 14 | 10:30am–Noon (Hosted at FUMC Denton)
Online Sessions (Zoom): Mondays, February 16, 23; March 2, 9, 16 | 7–8:30pm
In-Person Conclusion: Saturday, March 21 | 10am–2pm (Hosted at FUMC Denton)
Participation & Requirements
Participants commit to engaging weekly (live or via recording), discerning learnings and next steps individually or as a team, and purchasing the primary resource, The Caring Congregation: Implementation Guide (approximately $15). Additional handouts and resources will be provided throughout the cohort.
Cost: The conference has covered the cost of the training. Participants are responsible for purchasing the textbook and a $20 lunch fee for the final in-person session on March 21. Financial assistance for the textbook is available if needed.
Registration Deadline: Thursday, February 12
This cohort is led by experienced leaders from The Caring Congregation, offering decades of practical wisdom and proven strategies to help churches cultivate a culture of care that fosters healing, connection, and growth.

Beyond the Falling STAAR: A Workshop on How Schools are Graded
EVENT LOCATION: Miller Center (1st floor corner of Sycamore & Mulberry)
In 2025, the Texas Legislature eliminated the STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) with significant changes coming in the 2027-2028 school year. This standardized test for public school students from grades 3 through high school measures academic achievement against state standards.
Join Raise Your Hand Regional Advocacy Director, Kelley Thomas for an experiential workshop that explores what this change actually means for Texas Public Schools.
Community Dinner

There are lots of folks already here on Wednesday nights coming to choir, handbells, meetings, studies, etc. Feel free to come and then disburse to other Wednesday night activities. This will be come & go, no pressure to arrive at a specific time or stay long. See you there!
Pub Theology
This is a casual, open-minded gathering for folks with big questions about God, faith, and life. We meet at a local bar for drinks, a mini presentation, and thoughtful conversation together. Each gathering explores a topic through history, the Bible, and the voices of theologians.
February’s topic: Leave Room for Jesus: Purity Culture
Together, we’ll unpack the impact of purity culture—where it came from, how it shaped faith and bodies, and how we might look at it differently today.
No church background required. No pressure to follow a specific religion or belief. All are welcome—bring your questions, your curiosity, and your whole self as we learn from each other.
