Angel Tree Gifts Due
Everyone deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning! The Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of families around the country each year. FUMC Denton is invited to fulfill the Christmas wishes and needs for individuals that are here in Denton or the surrounding area. Through your kindness and generosity, you are making a difference for someone who needs your help at this particular time in their lives. This year FUMC Denton has adopted 230 angels.
Pick up an angel tag anytime in the first three weeks of November to provide Christmas to a child in our community. The joy of sharing and giving back in this season is a true gift—and it is a joy to care for resilient families in our community in a time when they would not otherwise have gifts at Christmas.
We will have a Christmas tree up with Angel tags at the church, each tag representing one child and their requests. Pick up Angel tags on Sundays November 3, 10, & 17. Please return your Angel’s gifts UNwrapped to the church by Sunday, November 24.

Open Book Club: The Collected Regrets of Clover
Open Book Club is a group of people from Open Worship and First United Methodist Church of Denton who cares deeply about people, justice, and seek to find truth in literature. You don't need any qualifications to be part of this group, just an open mind and a love of stories. May we be transformed by these stories together!
Join us on Zoom Monday, January 13 at 6:30pm for a discussion of our next book: The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer. Here’s a little about the book:
What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life? From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit, Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process. Clover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a trip across the country to uncover a forgotten love story––and perhaps, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it.

All Saints Concert
We invite you to gather for a heartfelt observance of All Saints Day. This sacred day, often overlooked in the liturgical year, serves as a poignant reminder of the faithful souls who have walked alongside us in our journey of faith, their legacies intertwining with our own. All Saints is an opportunity for us as a community to pause and remember those in our collective history—the thinkers, the dreamers, and the silent leaders—who continue to inspire us in myriad ways. Their stories remind us of the tradition of the church, a glorious tapestry enriched by each individual thread, each life well-lived.
On this day, through reflection, song, and shared testimony, we will celebrate the vast legacy that has shaped not only the United Methodist Church but also our individual hearts. Let us come together as we light candles in memory of those dear to us, symbolizing their light still guiding us despite their physical absence.
We will read the necrology— the naming those who have left us— during our morning worship services. In the evening, in the sanctuary, our choir will offer the ethereal sounds of Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem in a special service for All Saints. The evening service will also include the reading of the necrology. The choir will breathe life into this timeless composition offering a musical journey of solace and celebration.
Join us as we honor the precious memories of those we’ve lost—welcome the solace of music, and embrace the strength found in our shared remembrance. Together, we transcend sorrow and uplift one another, recognizing that all saints, seen and unseen, continue to shine their light upon us.

Angel Tree
Everyone deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning! The Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of families around the country each year. FUMC Denton is invited to fulfill the Christmas wishes and needs for individuals that are here in Denton or the surrounding area. Through your kindness and generosity, you are making a difference for someone who needs your help at this particular time in their lives. This year FUMC Denton has adopted 225 angels.

Trans Kids, Our Kids Book Tour
Please join us at the Denton, Texas stop of the TRANS KIDS, OUR KIDS book tour! Trans Kids, Our Kids: Stories and Resources from the Frontlines of the Movement for Transgender Youth is a new book that takes readers inside the movement for transgender youth, told through narratives that will open your eyes, break your heart, and give you hope.
The book is co-written by team members from the Campaign for Southern Equality, a leader in the work to protect trans youth and their families across the South and, through the Trans Youth Emergency Project, nationwide.
This very special event, hosted at First United Methodist Church of Denton, in partnership with Patchouli Joe's Books and Indulgences, will include a reading from TRANS KIDS, OUR KIDS and a very special screening of Love to the Max, a documentary short featuring one of the families whose story is shared in Trans Kids, Our Kids. The event will also include a panel discussion that includes co-authors Alexis Stratton and Adam Polaski, and the Briggle Family; a Q&A focused on how you can take action; and a book signing.
Please RSVP for this free event – and, if you're able, add a donation that will directly support trans and queer youth. All proceeds from the sales of TRANS KIDS, OUR KIDS will support the Trans Youth Emergency Project, which helps families of trans youth navigate anti-transgender healthcare restrictions. Books will be available for purchase by Patchouli Joe's on-site at the event, or you can pre-order here.

New Small Group & Book Study: Starved
So many Christians are struggling with the constant chaos in our world. As an escape, we are turning to phones, social media, politics, and other outlets in a desperation for relief. However, this struggle can leave us weak, tired, and spiritually starving. How can we begin to feed our souls?
The Bible Study “Starved” helps us to create a clean start and begin to live by Biblical principles that will provide healthy change in real ways. Learn healthy alternatives like learning to put down our phones and have genuine connections with others, letting go of anxiety and find peace, and setting aside exhaustion and be renewed.
The “Starved” study is based on the best-selling book by Amy Seiffert. This Bible study guide is available on Amazon.
For more information, contact group leader: Georgianne Burlage.
Men’s Book Club
Join our next Men’s Book Club at Zera’s Coffee, 420 E. McKinney, Denton. The book chosen is: The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson. Discussion will be encouraged and occasionally we may even talk about the book. Even if you don’t read, come and enjoy the fellowship. Please contact Bob Voss 972-965-9605 for more information.
Book Description: On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.
Pub Theology
Pub Theology is a group for folks with questions about God and life. We meet at a local bar for a discussion-based group. Leaders lead a mini presentation on the topic and what history, the Bible, and other theologians may have to say about it. Our questions examine the topics through the lens of the individual’s life experiences in the group.
