New Years Day Worship
Here we are at New Year’s Day, the end of the holiday season, all that we had planned for has happened, awkwardly or otherwise. Now it’s time to go back to work, back to school, back to the responsibilities and obligations of our day-to-day lives. I’ve discovered many of us consider New Year’s Day to be the most depressing holiday of the year. And there aren’t any college bowl games on Jan 1!
All the festivities were over for Joseph and Mary all those years ago. The baby was born, they opened the gifts, and then what? Fleeing for their lives from the soldiers of a jealous king. Relocating from Bethlehem to Nazareth because of the tyrant who was ruling Judea. It can be difficult to be the bearer of good news. Good news doesn’t always mean good times. Joseph and Mary follow God’s leading to keep them safe, but being a witness to the good news can be unglamorous and demanding. This Sunday, we’ll consider Joseph and Mary’s faith and perseverance bearing the good news through the hard times.
Come as you are at 11 am on New Year’s Day. We’ll have an informal service and a chance to enjoy each other’s fellowship, with some advice from scripture to help us live faithfully and hopefully as we say goodbye the holiday season and enter into the work God has for us in this season.
