Snowball Mountain Challenge: A VBS Recap

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." — Philippians 4:13
From June 8–11, our church came alive with the sound of kids laughing, singing, and shrieking with delight over "snowy” surprises—all in the middle of a Texas summer. This year's VBS Snowball Mountain Challenge, took its inspiration from the excitement of the Winter Olympics, and our Challengers rose to meet it with so much joy!
Guided by our lovable mascot, Ollie the Arctic Seal (aka Scott Gilliland), kids entering Pre-K through 6th grade geared up for winter-themed games and hands-on adventures. But underneath all the fun and games was something deeper: a week spent learning what it means to draw strength from God.
Through Bible stories, our Challengers discovered lessons in courage, bravery, and resilience. They learned that when life feels like an uphill climb, they don't have to face it alone—because all things are possible through a God who loves them every step of the way.
If you walked the halls during Snowball Mountain Challenge, you would have found kids elbow-deep in crafts, wide-eyed over science experiments, and dancing. So much dancing! Our Challengers picked up a whole set of new VBS songs this week, plus a special camp choreography set to "Lean on Me" that had kids (and more than a few adults) moving together in the best kind of chaos. It's the kind of song that fits right into what this VBS was all about: leaning on each other, and leaning on God.
By the end of the week, our Challengers couldn't wait to share what they'd learned, and VBS Sunday gave them the perfect stage. Watching them proudly show off their new songs, stories, and dance moves in front of their families was a beautiful reminder of just how much a week of VBS can make a difference.
None of this could happen without a big team! A huge thank you to our Youth Helpers, students entering 7th grade and up, who brought energy and leadership to every station and small group. And an even bigger thank you to every single volunteer who gave their time, talent, and patience to make this week possible—from the craft tables to the snack line to the sound booth and everywhere in between. You are the reason VBS Snowball Mountain Challenge came to life!
We're also deeply grateful to this congregation. Your generosity is what makes VBS and all the ministries of FUMC Denton possible year after year. Thank you for investing in our kids and in the future of this church family.
