From Shadows to Saints: A Night of Remembrance

On Saturday evening, our sanctuary was filled with candlelight, reverence, and breathtaking music as our community gathered for From Shadows to Saints: All Saints Day Worship featuring Mozart’s Requiem. It was a night that honored the saints who have gone before us and reminded us of the enduring hope we hold in Christ.

Under the direction of Dr. Josh Taylor, our choir and orchestra delivered a moving and deeply expressive performance of Mozart’s Requiem. The music rose and fell with emotion—at times whispering in reverence, at times soaring with power—drawing us into the sacred mystery of life, death, grief, and eternal promise.

We welcomed many members, guests, university students, and community friends into a shared moment of remembrance. Names of loved ones were lifted in prayer, candles glowed in their honor, and silence held holy space for memory and hope. The sanctuary felt full not only of those gathered in person, but of a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us in love.

This service also served as the culminating event of our three-day symposium, From Shadows to Saints: Exploring the Sacred Through Sound and Study, co-sponsored by FUMC Denton, the UNT Sacred Music Program, and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians South Central Region. We are grateful for every participant, speaker, musician, and guest who contributed to such a rich weekend of worship, learning, and reflection.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and prayed for this event. May the beauty we experienced continue to echo in our hearts as we walk forward in gratitude for those we remember and in hope for the life that is everlasting.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4
