United Methodist Church Meets to Organize for Social Change in North Texas

Denton, TX – June 20, 2023 – The North Texas Conference Board of Church & Society, in collaboration with FUMC Denton, is delighted to announce an upcoming event that aims to inspire and educate churches on their crucial role in driving positive social change within their communities. Titled β€œJustice Begins With Us: Organizing in the Church for Social Change,” this event promises to be a thought-provoking experience that will equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to make a lasting difference.

The educational program will feature a distinguished panel of speakers who will provide insights into the origins and significance of Church & Society, the social justice branch of the United Methodist church rooted in Wesleyan theology. By examining its historical context and discussing current initiatives, the event seeks to empower North Texas churches to embrace their responsibility as agents of transformation in their communities.

A highly anticipated highlight of the event will be the keynote address by Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr., who will share his invaluable perspective on the importance of the board of Church and Society, its role as the moral voice for the denomination and the North Texas Conference, and the theological relevance of its mission.

To facilitate focused discussions and encourage collaboration, breakout sessions will be offered, providing participants with the opportunity to exchange ideas, share their perspectives, and establish meaningful connections. These engaging sessions will serve as platforms for attendees to explore how they can actively contribute to social change within their own communities.

The event will commence with a complementary dinner for registered attendees and their families, ensuring an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all. Furthermore, childcare services will be available, allowing parents to fully participate in the event without any concerns.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed to enable participation from anywhere in the world. Details on accessing the live stream will be available at fumcdenton.com/live.
