Building Bridges Through Conversation

On Sunday, October 12, members of FUMC Denton and the wider Denton community gathered for Community in Conversation, a special Together We Dine event held in partnership with Project Unity. Over a shared meal, participants engaged in honest and heartfelt dialogue about race, identity, and what it means to be in community together.

Through guided conversation and trained facilitators, guests had the chance to share personal stories and listen deeply to others’ experiences in a safe, structured, and welcoming environment. What began as a simple dinner became a transformative evening of connection and understanding—reminding everyone that what unites us is greater than what divides us.

As one participant shared, “It was powerful to sit across the table from people I didn’t know and realize how much our stories overlap. It gave me hope.”

Community in Conversation (Together We Dine) is part of FUMC Denton’s ongoing commitment to ending racism and building a loving, just community—one conversation at a time.

If you’d like to continue these conversations, join us for the Community in Conversation Book Club on the third Saturday of each month from 5–7 pm at Patchouli Joe’s Books & Indulgences, where we’re currently discussing The Science of Racism by Keon West. (No time to read? Come for the discussion anyway!)

Together, we are learning, growing, and building a more united Denton.
