The Harvest Sunday School Class invites you to join us as we welcome Deb Hughey, a longtime healthcare leader, community advocate, and active voice for social justice.
A native Texan, Deb was born in Wichita Falls and raised in Lubbock. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's in Business Administration, After a-decades-long career in healthcare, she retired from the Baylor Scott & White Healthcare System in January 2020
When Deb was just ten years old, she watched the events of Bloody Sunday unfold on the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. Though she had little framework at the time to understand what she was seeing, the images planted a seed that would later grow into a lifelong commitment to justice.
After moving to Denton with her husband of 45 years, Deb joined First United Methodist Church of Denton, where she discovered a community of women deeply committed to social justice. Their encouragement led her to become involved with United Women in Faith and to attend the Texas Impact Legislative Event. Through these experiences, Deb found her calling in the Charter for Racial Justice and in John Wesley's teaching that social justice is a core expression of Christian faith.
Deb currently serves as Chair of the Church and Society Committee at FUMC Denton and is also a member of the HTC Church and Society Board of Directors.
She remains actively engaged in social justice efforts within her church community and across the state.
Join us on March 29 at 10am in Room 336 for an inspiring conversation about faith, justice, and the call to action in our communities.
