Called Out: Moses

Every call invites a response. And every call invites us to faith beyond “our thing” that keeps us from responding. It was that way for the Moses, one of the greatest leaders and figures in our Scripture library. When the nudge came to Moses — even a nudge as big as a burning bush — Moses had plenty of reasons and rationalizations that kept him from the yes that would bring liberation to his spirit. He had a complicated upbringing, a pass with serious missteps, responsibilities in life, a hard time with public speaking, and much, much more.

But when we hear our call, God meets us right where we are — in the midst of “our things” — and empowers us to face ourselves and offer ourselves and respond to our call. God met Moses in the sand of the desert, in Moses’ real life, and promised to be with him, promised that others would be with him too, and promised that if Moses said “yes,” he would be able to overcome his things and be part of something that would set the world and himself free. God helped Moses say “Here I am” to call of I AM.

It is the same way for us. God meets us where we are and helps us overcome our things — past, present, future — promising that we are not alone and that we can do it. This week, hear that call and that empowerment for your own life and your own things. So that together, God helping us, we can all say “Here I am” to the call of the great I AM.
