Back to School Sunday

This week is Back-to-School season for Denton area schools. Teachers have readied classrooms and prepared curriculum and welcome. Students have gathered their supplies, met their teachers, and are ready for a new year of learning, growing, and being with friends. And we as a church have prepared to support them in our prayers, through school supply drives, and by celebrating the start of a new year. At this week’s Blessing of Backpacks, students can have their backpacks blessed and prayed over for the new year. And students, teachers, and anyone else who wishes will receive a backpack tag reminding them of our prayers and that “God’s love is here for you…and so are we!” Being there for students on their journey is a big calling, but it is our calling — and one FUMC Denton has faithfully lived out throughout its history. The United Methodist Church exists to make disciples — literally “students” in Greek — of Jesus for the transformation of the world. Supporting and celebrating teachers, staff, and these children and youth disciples is part of that mission. We know that as they grow in themselves and the love of God, these students will transform the world.
