The Word Became Flesh

We’re going to open our minds this Sunday as we read from the first chapter of John’s gospel, with its description of Jesus that goes all the way back to creation. The Gospel of John tells us that no one has seen God, but Jesus, God the Son, has made God known. But who is Jesus? We tend to think of Jesus as one who appears in a set of stories. Jesus teaches, heals, and draws people into life-changing encounters. We know Jesus by the stories we tell. Is Jesus the actor in a set of stories or is Jesus something more? If we sum up all the actions in all the stories, have we actually described him? And once we have seen Jesus, how do we recognize the God he reveals? The answers may be closer than we think. We’ll share some experiences that point to those answers, including something that happened on our middle school mission trip.
