A Sacred Night of Reflection: Good Friday
On the evening of April 18, FUMC Denton gathered in solemn reverence for a moving Good Friday service, centered around a full performance of The Crucifixion by John Stainer. Led by Dr. Joshua Taylor, with Elizabeth Yoo on organ, and featuring soloists Jake Tipoff and Spencer Simpson alongside the FUMC Chancel Choir, this sacred oratorio offered a powerful retelling of Christ’s passion through scripture and song.
The service unfolded as a dramatic and deeply contemplative journey, inviting worshippers to walk the path to Calvary. Each musical movement and reading drew listeners into the heart of the crucifixion story—from the garden of Gethsemane to the final cry, “It is finished.” With opportunities for congregational singing and moments of silence, the evening created space for reflection, lament, and gratitude. The night concluded in quiet, the congregation departing in silence—carrying with them the solemn beauty of the cross and the hope that lingers on the edge of resurrection.
