Relaunching Groups & Renovating Miller Center

August 12, 2021

Dear Church Family,

This is an exciting week! We are beginning the relaunch of Sunday Morning Groups & Discipleship opportunities for all ages this Sunday, August 15 at 10 am. Gathering in community is an important part of our faith journey, and a place of belonging, support, and growth as disciples of Jesus. Below you will find more information about these Sunday group opportunities. You can also find details at fumcdenton.com/sundayschool.

As we return, our hearts are heavy that our new steps coincide with a rise in COVID cases in our community. In order to prioritize safety, love our neighbor, and seek to follow the first rule of life in Methodism: Do no harm, we’ve modified some of our plans. But we will still experience the joy of community and the deeper life we find in faith as we grow in God’s love together. In addition to continuing online worship offerings, many of our Sunday morning groups will be providing hybrid classes including Zoom for those who are not yet ready and able to return. You can find hybrid classes at fumcdenton.com/sundayschool.

  • Group Offerings

  • And exciting Miller Center fellowship renovation news!

SUNDAY HOSPITALITY:

When you arrive at church, there will be welcome tents with coffee, donuts, and bottled water at the East Wing children’s entrance, Mulberry Street entrance, and on Sycamore Street. As the Hospitality team welcomes you, you will also receive a guide to all our Group offerings for the fall. Come, grab refreshments on your way in, check out the Group offerings, and spend a few minutes welcoming each other!

When you enter, we are asking that all people mask and observe safe social distancing practices, vaccinated and unvaccinated. Additionally, because our children are not yet able to be vaccinated, masks will be required for everyone 2 and above in the children’s wing. Masks will be provided at all entrances and in all worship spaces.

In our children’s wing, we have a new check-in system to help keep kids safe and keep contact records. Greeters will be there to help families get checked in for Kids’ Sunday School at 10 and nursery throughout the day.

Additionally, we have resumed our transportation ministry! We are currently picking up people from Good Samaritan Denton Village and Lake Forest Village, from Willow Bend, and from Dogwood. We’re happy to pick you up from other places or your homes, just let us know. Contact Bob Mizell, (817)368-6943 to request a ride.

We can’t wait to gather with you this Sunday for Mosaic Worship at 9, Discipleship Hour at 10, and Sanctuary and Open Worship at 11.

GROUP OFFERINGS:

  • Youth and Kids’ Sunday morning programming resumes

  • Sunday School classes relaunch

  • Short-term Discipleship offerings begin September 12

This Sunday, August 15, Kids’ and Youth Sunday School and Sunday School Classes and Groups will relaunch. There are 13 different adult Sunday morning Groups to choose from! Additionally, throughout the fall, we’ll be offering a series of short-term discipleship opportunities covering different topics for faith, life, and study.

The first short-term study, beginning September 12, will be led by Rev. Kake Nations — All Things New — looking at the challenges of where we’ve been, the lessons we’ve learned, and the hope of a God has been with us and at work in us bringing new life through it all. We can’t think of a better topic for our times!

MILLER CENTER RENOVATION:

There are exciting projects underway at FUMC Denton! Miller Center is getting a renovation and facelift to make it a center of hospitality and connection for our church.

During the February snowstorm, portions of Miller Center were damaged by a pipe burst. In repairing the damage, we are also taking the opportunity to open up the space to make an even more beautiful, bright, and welcoming space for all. Construction work is currently ongoing, but we can’t wait to gather with you there soon.

On Sunday in worship, you’ll get a sneak peek of what the space will look like when construction finishes this fall. For now, pardon our dust — exciting things are happening at FUMC Denton!

We are so grateful to our church family for your work to stay connected and to keep your hearts in tune with love of God and each other. We look forward to connecting in more and more ways as we worship together, serve together, and grow in friendship and life together on the journey ahead.

As we seek to shine God’s love into every life, we’re a church that is alive and vibrant, where you can find belonging and an invitation to deeper life. We invite you to come find life, belonging, and deeper connection together at FUMC Denton!

Peace & Thanks,
Staff & Lay Leadership of FUMC Denton
