Come Meet Our New Co-Senior Pastor, Rev. Scott Gilliland!
We're rolling out the welcome mat for Rev. Scott Gilliland, our new co-senior pastor, and we want you to join the fun! Get ready to ask your burning questions, hear some great stories, and learn more about Scott and his journey to FUMC Denton. See you there!
About Scott:
Scott's story starts in Ft. Worth and Bedford, TX, where he grew up in a melting pot of cultures at Euless Trinity High School, with over 40 languages spoken on campus. This vibrant environment taught him to see the world through many different lenses and to embrace tough conversations.
Scott's adventure continued at The University of North Texas, where he majored in English and found his calling while working at his home church, W.C. Martin UMC in Bedford. After graduation, he served as Youth Ministry Director before joining Lovers Lane UMC in Dallas in 2010 as the Kids Ministry Associate Director. It was there that Scott and his wife Raegan (whom he met on staff) felt the call to ordained ministry, leading them to Perkins School of Theology at SMU. They both graduated and became elders in the North Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church.
In July 2020, Scott stepped into the role of Senior Pastor at Arapaho UMC. He co-authored "Together" with his mentor Rev. Dr. Stan Copeland, advocating for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals in the Church.
Scott loves teaching the Bible in a way that makes you think deeply and feel strongly. Heβs all about creating a community where everyone can be their authentic selves and discovering life's purpose together.
Scott and Raegan are proud parents to Andie Jane and Jude Parker, and Scott is super excited to be back in Denton, a place that will always feel like home.
