Freeing Jesus: Jesus as Presence

Lent is a season of reflection and renewal. The word comes from the Old English for the season of Spring, when the days begin to lengthen and new life sprouts forth from freshly turned soil. In the season of Spring and the season of Lent, as we prepare the soil and clean out the clutter, we can’t help but notice that signs of life and renewal are all around us, even if they are just emerging. These little glimpses point us toward the coming day when life is in full bloom. This week in our Freeing Jesus worship series we are exploring Jesus as Presence. In many ways, the presence of Jesus with his friends and disciples was a glimpse of the new kind of life that would one day bloom in full. And now, amidst our lives, when we experience one of those moments when we notice God’s presence, it is a glimpse of the fullness of Life and Love that is with us always, even if it takes digging in, cleaning out the clutter, or simply making intention to notice. What helps you experience God’s presence? Jesus suggested we might experience it in solitude or contemplation, in community or in meeting our neighbors with eyes of compassion, in times of trial or even in celebration. Jesus reminds us that God is always present, and invites us to be present to God.
