The Mask We Wear

We all wear masks of some kind or another. Some masks are more authentic then others. Only when we find ourselves in a safe place, we can lower our masks and be our true selves. In this time of pandemic, some citizens have been targeted because it was said their mask made them look “suspicious.” Masks are also associated with real life first responders and medical professionals who have proven themselves heroes while fighting the pandemic, their masks keeping people safe on both sides of it. If the psalmist is correct, that God seeks to delivers us from deadly disease, then we cooperate with God by masking for others and for ourselves, our mask is transformed into a means of God’s gracein the world.
