Good News for Your Story

The first person converted to Christianity in the book of Acts is only referred to in Scripture as "The Ethiopian Eunuch." Eunuchs were non-binary—able to occupy both masculine and feminine spaces and were considered a third gender. See how the heart of God has been pulling God's people toward full inclusion of our trans and non-binary siblings since the beginning in today's powerful Good News sermon at Open.

In the gospels, we see the narrative unfold through the eyes of the disciples, as they frequently miss whatever point Jesus is trying to make. It happens again with this week’s sermon text, where a woman anoints Jesus with expensive oil and the disciples miss the point. They call it a waste of money, but Jesus tells us this woman actually gets the point. In this last Sunday before Lent, we remember that faithful isn’t always safe, that doing the right thing can mean doing the hard thing, but that following the way of Jesus leads to new life. Jesus tells the disciples that wherever the good news is proclaimed, her story will be told.
