NTX Overdose Awareness Day

On Monday evening, FUMC Denton joined our community on the courthouse lawn for North TX Overdose Awareness Day—a night to remember those we've lost and to stand against the stigma that too often surrounds their stories.

Overdose remains the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18–44. Sharon Roland led a demonstration on how to administer Naloxone (Narcan), a life-saving tool that can reverse an overdose in the moment it matters most. Naloxone cannot harm anyone, of any age—so if you ever suspect someone is overdosing, administer it and call 911. You can learn how to use it here: roonow.org/saving-lives-with-naloxone

FUMC Denton also keeps Narcan onsite, should it ever be needed, in two places:

• Miller Center, missions closet (room to the right of the metal screen window)

• Monroe Kitchen, next to the washer and dryer

During the event on August 31, Krystal, Gabby Carr, and Vaughn Faison provided music that gave shape to the evening's grief and hope. Raegan and members of our FUMC Denton community helped staff our table and Raegan closed the night with a prayer that held space for every name spoken and every one still carried in silence. We are so grateful for the Rolands who organized and led the event, bringing it all together with heart.
