Celebrating Baptism and Community at FUMC Denton

"Well I didn't know we could do THAT!"

This was a remark Raegan and I heard in different ways from folks all morning long on Sunday (and in the days since). As a very fitting final Sunday in our Sermon Series on the theology of baptism, FUMC Denton celebrated immersion baptism with a family of four.

As a whole, the Belcher Family summed up what we've been learning about this month: Matt remembered his baptism as someone who was baptized and raised in this church, Samantha experienced baptism by profession of faith, and their daughters Harper and Holland experienced baptism as children of professed members.

I celebrated not only the Belcher Family, but also our larger church family of FUMC Denton. Members from Mosaic, Open, Sanctuary, and Jesus Fuente de Vida gathered in Miller Center to bear witness to the waters, and our presence together reminded us of our mission together. Through our diverse ages, genders, identities, ethnicities, and worship services, we are one church with one Spirit stepping into the same waters together! The sense of community and shared purpose that we find with each other is transformational; thanks be to God for what God is doing here through the people called "FUMC Denton!"

We'll see you this Sunday as we gather for communion and step into a month-long study of Moses in each of our services.
