Sunday, June 9, was a bittersweet day at FUMC Denton as we gathered to say goodbye to Pastors Don & Jonathan. This special day was all about celebrating these amazing pastors and wishing them well on their new journeys.

Rev. Don Lee, our Senior Pastor for the last 12 years, has retired, leaving behind a legacy of faith and leadership. His caring guidance and dedication have touched our hearts deeply. Rev. Jonathan Perry, who has been a crucial part of our church for the past 8 years, is stepping into a new role as Senior Pastor at Arapaho UMC. His efforts in building community and leading us have been invaluable.

Over 200 of us came together for the reception to honor these two wonderful leaders. The event was filled with love and gratitude, with heartfelt speeches from Lynda Whitman, Bob Voss, Jerry Clark, and Happy Carrico, who shared touching stories and expressed our appreciation for Don and Jonathan. Dalton Gregory kept the event lively as the emcee. Pastor Sheryl Gallarneau prayed for their journey ahead.

We enjoyed delicious refreshments, including cake, cookies, fruit, and flowers beautifully arranged by Janet Luttrell. We had the help of so many amazing volunteers who made it all happen, including Rhonda Clark, Dalton Gregory, Lisa Scott, Mike Inderhees, Jo Ann Englebrecht, Carol Rogers, and Tim McGuire, who helped set up the event. Mo Underwood, Peggy Land & her sister, Andrea Hollister, Janet, Tanya Cheney, Cynthia Rives, Rita Burleson, and Cheryl Michaelson, who helped prep and serve food and clean up. Susan Cooksey, Sarah McKinney, Ann Austin, Brenda Horn, Jo AnnEngelbrecht, Cynthia, Carol Rogers, and Nancy Murphy Chadwick, who all donated cookies. And all organized by Sherry Inderhees! Their hard work made the event truly special.

A highlight was the presentation of custom stained glass pieces for each pastor created by local artist, musician, and church member, Christie Wood. These beautiful artworks, unwrapped by Don and Jonathan during the reception, will be cherished reminders of their time with us. We also had a card-writing station where everyone could write personal messages, giving Don and Jonathan a stack of heartfelt notes to take with them.

As the event wound down, we all lined up to give the pastors big hugs and say our goodbyes. The love and affection in the room were clear, showing just how much they mean to us.

Don and Jonathan, we'll miss you so much! Your contributions have enriched our lives and strengthened our church. As you move forward, know that you carry our love, prayers, and best wishes. Thank you for everything. We love you and send you off with all our support.
