Important Updates on Church Staff Transitions

Dear Church Family,

I am writing to share some transition plans and updates within our church staff as we embark on a new chapter for FUMC Denton. We are filled with hope and anticipation for the next chapter in our church’s story of shining God’s love brightly in Denton, TX, and beyond.

First, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Brian Moshier, our Director of Operations, as he embarks on a new journey. Brian's last full-time day with us was Thursday, May 23. However, we are fortunate that he will continue to support us on a part-time basis through the summer, ensuring a smooth transition during the interim period between pastoral leadership teams. His dedication and hard work have been instrumental in guiding our church toward a sustainable future. We are deeply thankful for his countless hours of discovery work, guidance, and care for our church.

Our new senior pastors, Revs. Raegan and Scott Gilliland, will begin their ministry with us on July 14. During the interim period from June 9 to July 14, Brian will assist as needed, ensuring continuity and stability. The Director of Operations position will not be refilled at this time, as the Gillilands will assume the leadership of our church as our senior pastors and administrative tasks will be strategically redistributed among staff and lay leadership with the direction and input of Pastors Raegan and Scott.

Pastor Martha Segundo will serve as Facilities Manager while continuing in pastoral leadership of our Hispanic ministry, Jesus Fuente de Vida. As our church’s Facilities Manager, Martha brings over 20 years of experience at FUMC Denton to the oversight of maintenance needs, coordination with outside vendors, and management of building care in partnership with the Trustees committee. Martha will be the go-to person for maintenance requests, facilities concerns, and custodial questions, ensuring our campus remains a welcoming and well-maintained space. We are also blessed to have Martha continue as a pastor on our team. This year, through a partnership with the North Texas Conference's Center for Church Development, Martha is recognized as a lay planting pastor serving the Jesus Fuente de Vida community and is excited to continue to work toward growth of our Hispanic ministry.

We are also excited to announce that Rev. David Finley has been reappointed to FUMC Denton as a full-time Associate Pastor, effective July 1, 2024. David will continue his important work with our youth ministry and support of adult discipleship, bringing his passion and energy to these vital areas of our church life.

Krystal Stroud will continue her impactful work as our Director of Communications and Modern Worship Leader, while taking on additional administrative responsibilities as the church’s Office Administrator. Krystal will manage the church office, create systems to increase lay involvement in administrative tasks, and serve as the point person for scheduling, the church calendar, and general inquiries. Krystal is ready to contribute to the future of FUMC Denton through her gifts in administration, systems creation, and strategy. Her expertise will be invaluable as we move forward.

Pastor Sheryl will continue full-time as our Pastor of Children and Families and will also take on interim responsibilities as the staff liaison to our Missions Committee. Her dedication to our children's spiritual growth and her support of our missions will continue to be a cornerstone of our church's outreach and ministry.

Dr. Joshua Taylor will continue in his full-time role as our Director of Worship and Music. Josh’s leadership has been instrumental in fostering an exceptional music ministry at FUMC Denton. His dedication and expertise ensure that our worship services remain vibrant and spiritually enriching. We are grateful for his ongoing commitment to enhancing our worship experience and look forward to his continued contributions to our church community.

We recently sent out an SPRC update sharing that Jasmine Hutchins has joined our church staff as our Director of Finance. We are delighted to have her on board and excited for the wealth of experience and dedication she brings to our church.

We’re also very excited to share that we’ve hired a new Director of Children’s Day Out (CDO) and we will be sharing more information about her soon.

The rest of our church staff will continue in their current roles, providing stability and continuity as we move forward. We are very excited to welcome the Gillilands to our church and look forward to working together to build a vibrant, sustainable future for FUMC Denton. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. We are filled with hope for what the future holds for our church family.

With bright hope for tomorrow,

Happy Carrico
SPRC Chair
