COVID-19 Response

Dear Members and Friends of First United Methodist Church of Denton:

We know the coronavirus (COVID-19) has raised concerns in our community and around the world, especially now as the virus is beginning to affect more folks here in our country. We thought it important to communicate with you to ensure that you know we are very aware of the concerns and are taking appropriate precautions to keep everyone safe here at FUMC Denton.

Here’s what you can do to help:

  • If you or a family member are sick or have a persistent cough, please stay home. If you normally attend one of the traditional services, you are always welcome to worship with us online until you are feeling better. Mosaic, Open and Jesus Fuente de Vida all livestream their services via Facebook.

  • If you’re not sick, please come to church. In times of anxiety and fear, it is always good to worship God together!

  • We have placed additional hand sanitizer dispensers around the church and will get more if needed.

  • Our staff will remain attentive to cleaning efforts to sanitize frequently contacted surfaces and to ensure all of our children and youth areas are sanitary.

  • For the time being, let's forego shaking hands and passing the peace. Friendly elbow bumps and waves will be just fine. And smiles are always welcome.

Here’s how to avoid spreading the virus:
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) always recommend everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, throw the tissue in the trash then wash your hands.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

While we certainly don’t want to downplay the serious nature of COVID-19, but the CDC says that the risk of getting this virus in the U.S. is currently low and the impact is generally mild except for those who are older and/or have an underlying medical condition that may impact the immune system.

You should be aware of the signs and symptoms, several that often indicate a sickness other than COVID-19, but should still cause concern.

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath

If you experience any of these, you should seek medical attention, but always call your medical practitioner before going to see them.

Please join us in prayer for our brothers and sisters around the world who are affected by this virus, and for the prevention of the spread of the virus. Let’s be wise and cautious, but not fearful. God is with us!
