Join us for a discussion of Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique W. Morris. Morris challenges us to examine the overlooked and underreported plight of criminalized Black women and girls. Using a blend of statistics and stories, Morris shows how obstacles, stigmas, stereotypes and despair, Black girls seek dignity in their lives in classrooms, juvenile facilities and beyond. Interrupting the school to prison pipeline is one of the 2021-2024 Social Action Campaigns UMW is undertaking. You do not have to read the book to join us in this important discussion about the intersection of race, gender, and class in our public school system.
