Pub Theology

  • The Bearded Monk 122 East McKinney Street Denton, TX, 76201 United States (map)

Hey you! Do you question things a lot and then ask questions about your questions? Is existentialism a way of life for you? Do you enjoy drinking and diving deep into life's hardest theological quandaries? THIS IS THE GROUP FOR YOU!

We are a group of friends from FUMC Denton who get together on 3rd Mondays and talk theology.

Spring topics:
February 20 - Let's Talk About Sex (Sex & the Church)
March 20 - To Sin or Not to Sin (Ideas on Sin)
April 17 - No Human is Illegal (Christianity and Immigration)
May 15 - Breaking the Binary (Gender & God)

This group is led again by Jenny & Laura! Jenny Bates is finishing Jenny's Master in Divinity at Brite Theology School at TCU and serves in many ways at FUMC Denton as part of several committees, co-leading the Glow LGBTQIA+ group, and more. Laura Byrd is a pastor at Grace Avenue in Frisco, TX and a contemplative theologian. They like to drink beer and talk about God, asking the hard questions with no Sunday school answers.

No one will call you heretical here. We believe listening to other's spiritual experiences and outlooks on life can help us better understand ourselves as humans. We believe reason, experience, faith, and tradition are all important and should shape our theology and discourse.

Come out for Fall Pub Theology series hosted at The Bearded Monk at 8 pm on 3rd Mondays for some intellectual discussion that engages the group ear to discuss, listen, and learn from one another's experience and journey.

There are no wrong answers, unless it revolves around the oppression of others. NO homophobia, sexism, ageism, ableism, or racism. Hate does not aid in the spreading of God's love. Do no harm, first.
