NTC UMW Mission U

  • First United Methodist Church of Denton 201 South Locust Street Denton, TX, 76201 United States (map)

Each year, United Methodist Women members prepare for faithful living and action by engaging in transformative educational experiences at Mission u events. These events are centered around Mission u curricula that are designed to motivate, inform, and enrich our commitment to global ministry.

You’re invited to join local United Methodist Women from all across our North Texas Conference for this year’s Mission U! The Preview of Studies, Praise, & Introduction to Study Leaders gathering will be Tuesday, June 29 at 6 pm on Zoom. We’ll begin our journey together here! From there, you will be able to choose from 3 studies over the month of July:

  • Finding Peace in An Anxious World edited by Erin James-Brown
Using “The Serenity Prayer” as a scaffold, Finding Peace in An Anxious World explores ways to discover peace through scriptural and spiritual disciplines.

    • Section 1: Tuesday, July 6 & Section 2: Thursday, July 8 from 6:30-8:30 pm on Zoom with Study Leader:
      Dr. Mary T. Nickson

  • Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique W. Morris
Pushout shows how—even with obstacles, stigmas, stereotypes, and despair—Black girls still find ways to breathe remarkable dignity into their classroom lives, juvenile facilities, and beyond.

    • Section 1: Monday, July 12 & Section 2: Thursday, July 15 from 6:30-8:30 pm on Zoom with Study Leader:
      Dr. Thalia Matherson

  • Bearing Witness in the Kin-dom: Living Into the Church’s Moral Witness Through Radical Discipleship by Darryl W. Stephens
Living as siblings in the “kin-dom” of God requires bold faith. Bearing Witness explores this history, empowering us to imagine God’s justice and to lead with compassion.

    • Section 1: Tuesday, July 20 & Section 2: Thursday, July 22 from 6:30-8:30 pm on Zoom with Study Leader:
      Ms. Anna Bundy

So, we’re not giving up. How could we? Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without [God’s] unfolding grace. [...] There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.2 Corinthians 4:16-18
