Every year during the season of Lent, FUMC Denton strives to serve our community through an annual project called Lenten Rebuild. We find folks in our community in need of home repair through Hearts for Homes or through connections in our church family. You can help by picking up trash, cleaning, offer your construction expertise, or serving a meal to the work crew! Whatever your skill level, you are invited to serve.
We partner with Hearts for Homes, a local ministry that provides home repairs for low-income seniors.
You can join in the morning, afternoons, or all day from 9 am—4 pm on Saturdays during Lent for all different kinds of jobs—to sign up, click the link below!
All volunteers should complete a Hearts for Homes Volunteer Registration Form available at the link below. It only takes a few minutes! Thank you for shining God’s love into the lives of our neighbors!
The initial workday is Saturday, March 14 and will involve two homes located next door to each other on Chambers Street in Denton:
616 Chambers St. and 612 Chambers St.
Assuming adequate volunteer support, we will work both projects at the same time. Day one will involve mostly trash cleanup, fence de-construction, and siding replacement.
What to wear: Long pants, close-toed shoes or boots, long-sleeved shirts, gloves and hats for sun protection.
What to bring: Cleanup crew—bring gloves, dust/respirator masks (We will try to supply respirators, but it may be a challenge with Coronavirus demand.) Carpenter crew bring tool belt, hammer, nail puller, and a cordless drill.
What time: The start time is 9:00, End time about 4:00, or earlier if we finish the day’s work.
Parking: As always, parking will be tight around the work sites. Please plan to carpool with friends if possible, and park along Hill Street to the East of Chambers. Please be considerate of neighbors and avoid blocking driveways.
Food: Lunch and water will be provided. You might pack a re-usable sports bottle for water and a folding chair.
Rain: We will likely cancel the workday if it’s raining. If you sign up to serve, you will get an email if we decide to cancel.
