Inspired: Stories of Hope Sermon Series Begins

  • First United Methodist Church of Denton 201 South Locust Street Denton, TX, 76201 United States (map)

What inspires you? The stories of the Christian faith can be a source of strength, encouragement and joy in times of struggle, unease and transition. This Summer, we embark on a seven week journey seeking inspiration from some of the best known scriptures of the Old and New Testaments; Jonah’s “whale of a tale” journey to Nineveh; Elijah’s face-to-back encounter with God on Mt. Horeb; God’s promise of presence and restoration in the book of Isaiah; Peter’s attempt at water-walking; Jesus’ Great Commission and his teachings on New and Old Wineskins; and the story of the early days of the church. As we prepare to re-engage as a faith community, by sharing these stories and scripture with one another and what they have meant in our own lives, we can find a way to name and address any fears we face; to see how God creates space to experience new things in our lives; and to nurture an appetite for developing new relationships that shine God’s love on every life.

The verses and stories in our library of scripture inspire us and let us hear the wisdom of God. During this pandemic, we’ve needed that wisdom and sacred inspiration in profound ways. As we look toward a new day and reflect on our journey, listen to some of the ways our congregation has found inspiration and strength through scripture, and find new inspiration for the journey ahead.
