February Mission Corner: Spring Break Food for CISNT

  • First United Methodist Church of Denton 201 South Locust Street Denton, TX, 76201 United States (map)

In past years, the February Mission Corner of FUMC Denton has collected baskets of food for families of children served by Communities in Schools of North Texas (CISNT) within the Denton ISD. These schools include Ryan High School and its feeder schools, Betty Middle and Rivera Elementary, with which our church has partnerships. They also include Denton High School and many of its feeders—13 schools in all! The mission of CISNT is to support a caseload of about 100 students at each school who are most at risk of dropping out. One major risk factor is food insecurity.

Many families depend on the school lunch and breakfast programs to provide two nutritious meals a day for children. Our Spring Break Food basket drive typically provides simple and nutritious food for 60 families identified by the CISNT program coordinators as most in need.

This year, instead of food, we will collect money and/or gift cards for 60 families of various sizes. The cost of a gift card for one average sized family is $50.

To participate in the February Mission Corner, you may:

1) Give gift cards in the amounts of $50 or a component of $50 ($25, $20, $30) that can be used to buy groceries in the Denton and Ryan High School feeder areas: Walmart, Target, Kroger, Aldis, Albertsons. Mail or deliver the cards to the church office Ivey Garden entrance on any M-Th from 9-3 pm in February. Ring the bell and there will be a basket to drop them in.

OR

2).  Donate money online through the church for the Mission Team to purchase gift cards. To do this, click here and select General Missions in the drop down menu and type “CISNT” in the memo line.

Our Mission Team will deliver a gift card or cards for each designated family to the CISNT school program coordinators on Wednesday, March 3. The coordinators will deliver the cards to the families for use during spring break, March 8-12, in Denton ISD. Thank you for your generosity that will help families over spring break!
