Denton ISD Meal Service Volunteer Opportunity

Denton ISD needs 28 volunteers on Wednesday, April 15 to deliver a week’s worth of food to students. Volunteers will arrive in their cars and will be met by nurses to complete the questionnaire and have their temperatures taken. Once cleared, they will pop their trunks and Child Nutrition staff will place “super bundles” of food in their cars. They’ll be given a list of addresses with the number of meals to take to each home. We’re trying to keep it to about 20 stops per volunteer. The “super bundle” contains 2 bags of food per student, one shelf-stable and the other is fridge/freezer food. One household could potentially have several students and super bundles to deliver to it. We’re hoping the food will be delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., once volunteers get cleared and cars loaded at the campuses.

Volunteers must be able to comply with the following:

  1. Be under the age of 65.

  2. Not have any underlying health conditions (this is a question nurses will ask).

  3. If they are aware of anyone in their household who could be or is sick, they must not volunteer.

  4. Have their temperature taken on-site.

  5. Wear gloves, provided by Child Nutrition.

  6. Wear a mask, must bring one or request one ahead of time from martin@dentonisd.org.

  7. Wear a hat, if they have one.

If volunteers meet the above requirements, they can sign up for a shift at https://volunteersignup.org/LJQ7B. Once they’ve signed up and all shifts are filled, I’ll be sending specific details by Tuesday evening.

Each person can sign up for 2 shifts, but each shift looks the same. We just want to stagger their arrivals to give our staff time to get meals loaded and nurses to take temperatures of all volunteers. Thank you for shining God’s love into these families’ lives!
