A Season of Gratitude:
The psalms are songs—song lyrics are poetry—so, the psalms are poetry. There’s this line in Psalm 100 that can be translated two ways: either “God made us and we belong to God” or “God made us; we did not make ourselves.” Since poetry thrives on double meanings, what if both readings are correct? Not either/or but both/and.
The most important thing about being grateful is being aware of the source of our good gifts. Quite often gratitude is giving thanks for something you did not make and is now yours. Let’s spend time this Sunday and this week remembering the free gifts God has given us and being grateful.
